Kieran Brookes death: Ski lift operator guilty of indirect manslaughter

A ski lift operator has been found guilty of the indirect manslaughter of a boy who died in the Alps. Richard Cettour, the ski lift operator from France, is given a six-month suspended sentence. Kieran's parents were obvisouly not happy with this as they said that they not felt as justice has been done.

Kieran was on a six-seat ski lift at Châtel when he tried to climb off at the top of the slope, in February 2011. He hang in the air for four whole minutes according to eye witnesses. Cettour was responsible for the safety of all skiers using the lift, but wasn't their when the accident happened, and failed to respond to other skiers who were trying to call him.

Own Opinion

Of course this is difficult case, because the lift instructor (hopefully) never wanted this to happen. But he is responsible for his death. Even if it is only indirect. Cettour has a job where if things go wrong or fail, people die. He knew this and, unfortunate for him, it happened. So it seems to me that a six-month sentence is fair in this case. Cettour made a mistake and that tragically led to a young boys death. He has to face the consequents now.
